 In preparation for the upcoming Fall Harvest Festival, friends, neighbors and volunteers spent time weeding, pruning and cleaning up the Historic Lakeview cemetery. On behalf of The Allentown Village Initiative, Thank You All for your support to make our community more beautiful.

It was a successful 2-Weekend Cemetery Community Workday at the Old Burial Ground on April 14th, 15th & 21st.
On the 14th & 15th the new wooden log fencing was completed with the help of students, Carla Lebentritt, Nancy Tindall & Michael Michaud. Saw dust was in the air as the logs were cut and shaped to fit the fencing posts, and assembled. Weeding, pruning and a tremendous cleanup was done to kick off this 2-weekend event. On the 21st the weather was perfect…sunny and cool. Munchkins, water, gloves and work tools available for use. 12 students from the History Honor Society and Ms. Susan Thompson, another student, Jeff Ploshay, Alice Wikoff, and Nancy Tindall were in attendance. Alice Wikoff at the end of the laborious work time, shared information and answered questions about the history of the cemetery, the people buried therein, and historic facts about Allentown to a captive audience. Most students left about 12:45 and others left about 1:30. Rob Strovinsky and the DPW delivered mulch/wood chips on Friday the 20th in the afternoon. Chris Reid delivered 2 cords of wood chips about 11am the next morning. Chris also returned with additional shovels, pitch forks and 3 wheelbarrows for our use, which were a tremendous help. Wood chips were spread along lower sloped area and along upper cemetery area along driveway. Small branches were pruned on the weeping cherry. Uneven soil area around the lower fence post and weeping cherry was filled in. Winter debris and leaves were removed and a pile placed along Lakeview Road for community pickup. Students took out weeds/collected broken glass pieces in and around the cemetery. Everyone worked to spread the chips previously delivered and worked to remove and distribute the Saturday wood chip deposits from the driveways and onto the cemetery areas. Much was accomplished with an energized and motivated labor force! Thank you to all who helped and TAVI was proud to be apart of the action.  The Allentown Village Initiative would love to thank all the community members, neighbors and businesses for there help in another successful fundraiser.  We are proud to announce that we reached our goal and were able to raise enough money for our first new ALLENTOWN ENTRY sign
