Good Neighbor Bank Connects the Handy with Those Who Need a Hand
Chances are you’ve gone next door or up the street at some point to help a neighbor repair, install or move something that was just a bit too much for one person to handle. It’s just part of being a good neighbor in a small town – and it’s what makes Allentown and Upper Freehold great places in which to live, work and raise a family.
Many of us, however, are pretty spread out from one another – particularly throughout the 42 square miles of Upper Freehold Township. We may not even realize there’s a neighbor just up the street who could really use a little help. Maybe there’s an illness or injury that goes unnoticed; Maybe there’s an older neighbor nearby who just can’t manage some of the things they did before.
That’s where the “Good Neighbor Bank” can help. TAVI and the Allentown Presbyterian Church are working to create a list of residents in Allentown and Upper Freehold who are available throughout the year to help a neighbor as a need may arise. No special skills are required, just a willingness to respond and help out once in a while. It could be as simple as picking up groceries for a senior who can’t get out because of some winter weather. It might be mowing a lawn for someone who’s temporarily unable to do it themselves because of an injury or illness. If you’re handy, it could be helping out with that odd job around the house that can stump some of us but be a breeze for others.
The goal is to be there for our neighbors when they need us. If you’re able to help, sign up at www.allentownvinj.org . At some point we will all need a little help, so why not pay it forward? If you need some assistance, or know someone who does, give us a call at (609) 208-9991, or email [email protected] . We’ll make a match that will get the job done, one “good neighbor” at a time!
